About Respiratus ry
Oras Respiratus ry – a Breath for a Better Future
Oras Respiratus ry was born out of a deeply personal need. When our founder’s father was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, she experienced a profound sense of helplessness in the face of the disease. The situation forced her to pause and reflect on health and community – the very foundations of life for all of us, yet something we too often take for granted.
We wanted to find a way to help, a way to bring hope when options seemed far too few. Out of these feelings and experiences came the idea of an association dedicated to advancing research, developing new treatments, and strengthening preventive work.
Our Mission
Respiratus means “breath” in Latin. This single word captures the essence of our work: breathing, the continuation of life, and the hope that science and research can bring. Our goals are:
-
To support lung disease research – because only through research can we better understand these diseases and create new solutions.
-
To promote the development of new medical treatments – so that patients have more options and better care.
-
To strengthen prevention and awareness – as many illnesses can be eased or even prevented through the right knowledge and early intervention.
-
To build community and hope – by bringing people together around an important cause.
Our Values
At the heart of our work is transparency. We want every donor and supporter to know exactly where their contribution goes: to research, treatment development, and preventive efforts.
Equally important to us are humanity and hope – the understanding that behind every illness is a person, a family, and a story. Every breath matters.
Our First Big Step
The journey of Oras Respiratus ry will begin in earnest in autumn 2025 with our very first charity event:
Respiratus Charity Gala
📍 Vanajanlinna, Hämeenlinna
📅 Saturday, November 29, 2025
The name Respiratus comes from Latin – a breath. It symbolizes breathing, life, and hope. The evening will bring together supporters, researchers, and friends around a vital cause. The program will include a charity auction and raffle, with all proceeds directed transparently to advancing research and treatment development.
